Podcast: Dolly Parton’s America

I was in for a delightful surprise today! Stumbling onto the podcast “Dolly Parton’s America”, I remembered hearing people mention it in the news on several occasions. So I gave it a moment of my time.  My Podcast software had some dust on it (so to speak). But it was well worth the time to update the technical stuff so I could give this series a listen.

It was so comforting to hear Dolly’s voice – that iconic voice that was part of my parents’ constant mood-setting music. Everything else was a bonus! But the content of the first episode had lots of “meat on its bones” too. I didn’t expect to be so shocked and educated by the stories told.

Here’s the introduction from the podcast producers…

In this intensely divided moment, one of the few things everyone still seems to agree on is Dolly Parton—but why? That simple question leads to a deeply personal, historical, and musical rethinking of one of America’s great icons. Join us for a 9-episode journey into the Dollyverse. Hosted by Jad Abumrad, creator of Radiolab and More Perfect.
Dolly Parton’s America is co-produced by OSM Audio and WNYC Studios.
