Music Hideaway

I still remember when this song (below) first aired on MTV in 1985. My thoughts were very loud – loud enough to remember them. Very clearly, I was thinking to myself “W.T.F??!?” This technology was totally new at the time (claymation, pixilation, stop motion animation). And even if it was available in big budget films, we certainly had not seen this kind of thing in small budget music videos.

But then Peter Gabriel changed the nature of that game. He upped the ante for all musicians. This was FRESH! And I was obsessed. No recording devices for regular TVs back then, so I just kept the station set to MTV and waited for it to air again. Can you imagine loving a video and not being able to just press ‘replay’?? Oh man, life was so different then. Some better – some worse. Anyway, enjoy!… then replay… and enjoy… and press replay! lol

Peter Gabriel – Sledgehammer (HD version)

Released in 1985. Directed by Stephen R. Johnson. Produced by Adam Whittaker.
Claymation, pixilation, and stop motion animation provided by Aardman Animations and the Brothers Quay.
